The scientific name of Harad is Terminalia chebula.

It is also called Haritaki, Abhaya, Pathya, Halil, and Harde.

According to Ayurveda, it has seven types. But its three types are in practice and these are ---

According to Ayurveda, Harad (Terminalia Chebula) pacifies all the three doshas - Vata, Pitta, and Kapha.

It is very beneficial for health and its main 8 health benefits are:-

1) Its consumption strengthens the digestive system. It cures many digestive problems like gas, flatulence, indigestion, and constipation.

2) Its consumption cures physical weakness and strengthens the body.

3) It is also very beneficial for the brain and it boosts memory.

4) It greatly benefits in the weakness of eyes and improves eyesight.

5) Heating the Haritaki for a while on a low flame, cooling it, and eating it two to three times a day provides great benefit in respiratory diseases (such as asthma) and cough.

How to take Harad (Terminalia Chebula) in different seasons


It should be consumed according to the season. By consuming like this, it proves to be extremely beneficial for health.

According to the season, its intake is as follows -

In the monsoon (rainy) season, it is consumed with Saindhav lavana (or rock salt),

In the autumn season, it is consumed with Amla (Indian gooseberry) powder,

In the pre-winter season, it is consumed with dried Ginger powder

In the winter season, it is consumed with Pippali (long pepper) powder

In the spring season, it is consumed with Honey,

In the summer season, it is consumed with Jaggery
